Sedilia
At Sedilia, we understand that sometimes it pays to be stubborn. We started making furniture in the 1990s, when bespoke upholstery couldn’t have been more unpopular – but instead of letting that deter us from pursuing our craft, it encouraged us to work even harder. The determination to make beautiful furniture coupled with an absolute refusal to fail has probably played a huge part in our success. We knew that if we just kept going there would be a market for our way of making and sure enough, we were right.
In a world overloaded with choice, we realised that purity was probably the best antidote. Our pursuit of the perfect line was an instinctive response to this and led to the development of the reductive, recognisable aesthetic that Sedilia has become well-known for. The unrivalled quality of our work isn’t just about the materials we use, it’s also about our approach. We have everything we need under one roof at our workshop in London and take ownership of the entire creative process, which we believe, is what sets us apart. We’re not just designers, we’re also the makers. This means we’re able to push the boundaries of time-tested techniques every day thanks to the knowledge, imagination and expertise of our trusted team of cabinet makers and upholsterers.
Twenty years of working to commission for the best interior designers has taught us that really good furniture has the power to improve our physical and emotional wellbeing in more ways than we’ve probably considered. A great chair isn’t just a place to sit; it holds you and comforts you, sometimes for hours on end, which is why it’s worth investing in something that will last a lifetime (and more). With this in mind, we decided a long time ago that Sedilia wasn’t about fads or trends, instead it was a quiet, honest mission to blend timeless design and innovation with edge, ease, balance and proportion – a way of bringing only the essential elements into focus.
Our furniture is made to be lived with and enjoyed in the homes and spaces of today, tomorrow and decades to come.
